Avina’s Gulf Coast Green Hydrogen Facility Achieves Major Permitting Milestone

October 19, 2024, Short Hills, New Jersey – Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc., is pleased to announce the successful completion of a critical air permitting milestone for its large-scale green hydrogen project located in Texas Gulf Coast.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued a final air permit for the construction of a 1GW electrolyzer based hydrogen production facility. Green hydrogen produced from this facility will be used to produce clean ammonia and other clean fuels that are required to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as agriculture, maritime shipping and transportation.

The green hydrogen plant will comply with the Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) standards established in the European Union. The clean ammonia plant also received Tier 1 status in Clean Hydrogen Pre-Certification program conducted by the Korean government’s certification entity, achieving a Well-to-Gate carbon intensity (CI) score of 0.04 kgCO2e/kgH2.

Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the integrated green hydrogen and clean ammonia facility is underway and is estimated to be completed before the end of 2024. The facility is expected to produce 140,000 MTPA of green hydrogen and 800,000 MTPA of clean ammonia.

“This milestone marks a significant step forward in the company’s commitment towards advancing renewable fuels technologies and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy,” said Vishal Shah, Founder & CEO of Avina Clean Hydrogen.  “The rapid completion of this permitting process demonstrates the strong commitment by the regulatory bodies in the state of Texas towards promoting low carbon infrastructure development.”

This project is expected to create at least 2,000 jobs during the construction phase, as well as contribute to the local economy and community-serving infrastructure development.
